Why Volcane Spins Is the Best One-Thumb Arcade Game Right Now
I didn't expect much from Volcane Spins. The icon is a little generic, the name sounds like a hundred other tap games, and I almost scrolled past it. Then I played one level, then twenty, and suddenly my train stop had arrived and I'd missed half the journey.
The whole game is about rotating linked discs to carve a path for a rolling ember before lava rises up and swallows the screen. What sounds basic on paper turns into genuine spatial puzzling once discs start locking, spinning on their own, and interacting with each other. Volcane Spins drip-feeds these new wrinkles at a near-perfect pace.
My advice: don't rush. The early temptation is to spin as fast as possible, but the best times come from planning two rotations ahead and letting the ember build momentum naturally. Use the hold-to-spin sparingly. Overspinning is how I failed the trickier stages.
It's free to play with ads between some stages, and they're not aggressive. There's an option to remove them for a small one-time payment, which I happily took after an hour. A rare case where the game earned it.
If you like short, sharp arcade games you can master rather than grind, Volcane Spins deserves a spot on your home screen.
