Cozy Simulators for the Days You Can't Deal

October 14, 2026 · Mikael Sørensen

There's a whole category of mobile games whose entire purpose is to lower your heart rate, and I've come to treasure them. Cozy simulators ask nothing of you except gentle, repetitive attention, and on a rough day that's exactly right.

Orchard Keeper is a perfect example. Prune a tree, check the weather, graft a new branch, close the app. The slow growth timescale that frustrates some players is the whole point for me. It gives me a tiny thing to look forward to tomorrow.

What separates a good cozy sim from a boring one is texture. The best ones make small actions feel satisfying through sound, animation, and a sense that the world remembers what you did. A tree you planted months ago finally fruiting hits differently.

Don't play these to win. There usually isn't a winning. Play them the way you'd water a real plant, as a small ritual rather than a goal.

Keep one installed for the bad days. You'll be glad it's there.
